Our Full Story

About Driftwood

A deeper look at where we started, what we believe about food, and where we're headed.

Grilled fish plate

We started with a charcoal grill on a borrowed dock and a cooler of whatever the boats brought in that morning.

There was no dining room, no printed menu — just a grill, a folding table, and whoever wandered down from the beach hungry enough to wait.

Word got around. Within a year we had a lease on the lot next door and a real kitchen. Within five, we had the space we're in now — but the idea never changed: cook what's fresh, keep it simple, let people stay as long as they want to.

Today the grill is bigger, the wine list is longer, and we finally have real chairs — but everything on the menu still traces back to the same question we asked on that dock every morning: what came in today, and what should we do with it?

Our Timeline

How We Got Here

2011

The Dock

A borrowed charcoal grill, a cooler of the day's catch, and no fixed address.

2013

First Lease

We moved onto the lot next door — still mostly outdoor seating, but a real kitchen for the first time.

2016

The Dining Room

Driftwood moved into its current building on Flagler Ave, with an indoor dining room and full bar.

2021

Ten Years In

Celebrated a decade with the same charcoal grill from the dock — still in use, tucked in the back of the kitchen.

Today

Still Cooking

Same question every morning: what came in today, and what should we do with it?
